Ansuz the Scribe walked out of his hut. One of the soldiers who had carried off Sowilo was inside, and they had just had a nice little chat. Now he knew who they were: Einherjar. These were the warriors who had served Odin in Ragnarok.#futharkvillage @blithgunde @WolfofOdin420

Ansuz's one eye lighted on King Mannaz, standing outside the mead hall and talking to Eiwaz. He walked up the hill toward the king and waited patiently for Eiwaz to finish reporting what had happened at the river.#futharkvillage @MightySigurd @SRCExplores @rhipossessed

"Thank you, Eiwaz," King Mannaz said, dismissing him. "Ansuz, what news from our prisoner?"

The scribe stepped into the light escaping the mead hall and said, "Sowilo is alive and will be kept that way. They want her for her foresight."#futharkvillage @MarieHa44988077
"And where shall she be taken?" Mannaz asked.
— Perseus Greenman (@futharkvillage) November 8, 2019
"The warriors who took her are Einherjar who have sworn themselves to Modi Thorson after Odin fell in Ragnarok. There is apparently some contest between Himself and Magni, His brother."#futharkvillage @ILupine @Hyrrokkin89
"And Sowilo is a prize in this contest?" Mannaz asked. He had never been one for games.
— Perseus Greenman (@futharkvillage) November 8, 2019
"No, your majesty. Sowilo has been taken to make the game easier for one of the sides. Modi believes that with her gift of prophecy, he cannot lose."#futharkvillage @Apez140
Perthro the Gambler popped his head out of the mead hall at this point. "I believe I overheard you talking about games?"
— Perseus Greenman (@futharkvillage) November 8, 2019
"Yes, Perthro," King Mannaz said. "The warriors who attacked us think it is a game to do so."
Perthro's face darkened at this.#futharkvillage
Looking at Ansuz, Perthro said this verse:

"Fair one from us taken
For fateful game away.
Straight up sail, you cowards.
Slither away to slip our noose."
Mannaz and Ansuz backed away from the vehemence in Perthro's voice.
Perthro scowled. "This is no game." #futharkvillage
As Perthro stalked off, King Mannaz asked Ansuz, "So what IS the nature of this game?"
— Perseus Greenman (@futharkvillage) November 8, 2019
"The two sons of Thor argue over who shall inherit their father's hammer, Mjolnir. Vali Odinson has convinced them to ask the dwarves who built Mjolnir to adjudicate."#futharkvillage
"King Nordri," Ansuz continued, "who rules the city of Nidavelir, has issued a challenge that the brothers travel to Jotunheim and slay as many giants as possible."
— Perseus Greenman (@futharkvillage) November 8, 2019
"So we must travel to Jotunheim to get her back?" King Mannaz asked.#futharkvillage
"No, my liege," Ansuz said. "The Thorsons have set up their camps in Svartalfheim, and that is where Sowilo shall likely be kept."
— Perseus Greenman (@futharkvillage) November 8, 2019
"Very good," Mannaz replied thoughtfully. "Then let everyone know: Tomorrow we seek an entrance to Svartalfheim."#futharkvillage
And once Ansuz had gone to talk to the others, King Mannaz Greenteeth found himself alone, standing at the boundary between the light of the meadhall and the darkness of the night. He thought quietly of all the villagers in his care. They counted on him.#futharkvillage
